(My Sister and I) Last Picture with Dad

With this site I would like to honor my dad, whose strength and resilience have deeply influenced me. Watching him struggle with numerous failed knee and back surgeries, macular degeneration, stenosis, and heart issues for over 25 years was heartbreaking. In his last couple of years of life, he suffered from dementia and Parkinson’s, which was devastating. His strength in enduring so many ailments has been a profound lesson for me. The picture here is about 6 months before he passed away in 2016. His last 2 years of life were spent in nursing home due to the severity of the Parkinsons and Dementia.

About ten years ago, while witnessing my dad’s health battles, I became obsessed with taking control of my own health. I constantly researched to understand how to prevent the diseases he suffered from, trying to avoid them myself since many of them can be genetic. Every source pointed to the same conclusion: the best nutrition for preventing these issues included fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds, while avoiding meat, dairy, gluten, processed foods, and sugar. I dabbled in this lifestyle and knew it was better for me and made me feel better but did not go all in.

In 2020, during the Covid shutdowns, I realized how important it was to escalate my research on taking power over our own health. This realization led me to get my health certification to help others with their health. I knew I needed to walk my talk, so I set out to lose 30 pounds! Instead of doing this through a Whole Foods plant-based diet, I chose to receive meals and snacks in the mail. Sure enough, I lost the 30 pounds I wanted to lose but when I went to get blood work, hoping that my cholesterol had gone down, it had not moved! Again, my research showed that the way to lower cholesterol was with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds! That’s when I decided to go all in with a Whole Foods plant-based lifestyle. Needless to say, my cholesterol was down 50 points in six weeks after diving in.

At 63 years old, I now have more energy and a stronger immune system than ever before. I take no meds and have no joint pain. I feel more like I’m in my 20s or 30s. This transformation led me to create my website in 2022, State of Well-Being, so that I can share with others what I have learned! I hope you will explore this new “easier recipe search”  site that I am building more and more every day. It has helpful resource downloads, WFPB recipes, meal planning ideas, and insights on wellness. I invite you to subscribe and join me on this journey!
